Selected locations

The following locations are documented by laboratory analyses, official authority data, or on-site findings. Detailed background on each location is available on the Burgenland overview page.

Kotezicken playground

Path gravel at a public playground in Kotezicken (municipality of Mischendorf, Oberwart district). Our own sampling via CRB Analyse Service GmbH (DAkkS-accredited): positive for actinolite (amphibole asbestos), mass class 2 (1 to 5 per cent). Details and test report

Grosspetersorf (milled aggregate)

Asbestos-contaminated milled road aggregate documented by the state task force and Greenpeace. Three published measurement values (February to May 2026); methodological assessment on the Burgenland page. Analysis and methodology critique

Kirchschlag: bocce court

Bocce court surfaced with serpentinite gravel, most likely originating from the closed quarries. Recreational use on crushed asbestos-containing material is particularly problematic because abrasion during play releases fibres. Locations overview

Oberwart Hospital

Asbestos-containing gravel in the outdoor area of Oberwart Hospital. Authorities have already issued an order requiring removal of the material. Locations overview

Szombathely, Oladi-plato

Residential district in Szombathely (Hungary) whose gravel roads were surfaced with material from the same quarries. Official air measurements under dry conditions: 34,800 to 292,000 fibres/m3 (for comparison: Burgenland winter measurements peaked at 829 F/m3). Hungary deep-dive
